In EPITAPH, Alina Kleytman transforms materials associated with death, absence, and the
fragmented body—body bags, synthetic prosthetic matter, and human hair—into a
suspended textual installation. The letters, tangled and hand-formed, spell out a cryptic
farewell, evoking both ritual and accusation. Shadows double the message, blurring its
legibility and implicating the viewer in an act of deciphering.
The work is part of Kleytman’s ongoing series ENDLESS SHINE OF HUMAN VIOLENCE, an
acerbic, dystopian satire masquerading as a triumphant manifesto. Drawing from the
grotesque language of authoritarianism and cultish indoctrination, the artist exposes the
mechanisms of power that demand blind obedience, superiority, and the silencing of
conscience. EPITAPH functions as both lament and indictment: a poetic remnant of those
crushed by violence, and a mirror to the systems that glorify its endless spectacle. By turning
language into sculptural form—organic yet grotesque, fragile yet looming—Kleytman
confronts viewers with the aesthetics of domination and the uneasy complicity of
spectatorship.
